I thought the NYR's have done a pretty solid job all around this offseason. Solid short term contracts. Dan Boyle will be a great upgrade on D as he's pretty good taking the puck out of the D zone.

Greiss outplayed Niemi last season?

I guess if you're comparing goalies from two different teams, yeah.

Thats what I was thinking. Greiss backed up mike smith when he got hurt and didn't do very well. Hopefully we got the greiss who backed up Niemi. C'mon Jan... over all good blog

you think johansen in Columbus affects MZA at all?

They are not the same type of player, but both had 60 point breakout seasons, leading their respective clubs

Myabe. JK seems pretty set on getting Johansen to sign a bridge deal. Johansen is going off his ELC and Zuccs is coming off his 3rd NHL contract.

I can't see Zuccs accepting a "Stepan" type deal, although that was his bridge deal.

If I'm his agent, Sather pays up on this one.

Edit: especially after what Pouliot got, his price just went up higher.

Pouliot was a UFA though. Also it's the Oilers. That team is just dumb.

All Sather has to say is "there is a reason he didn't sign here".

Apparently nobody wants him...except maybe his drug dealer.

Jan....duclair is NOT going pro next year....i forget if it was Clark or Gorton that said that they want him in juniors next season to see how he does in the memorial cup since his team is the hometown team and he's guaranteed to play in it, so count him out next year

Right now, the Rangers have regressed from where they were at the end of the season, it remains to be seen what happens the next close to three months to narrow the gap between them and others in the Eastern Conference and Metro Division before the season starts.

I can't believe you said this Jan, you're gonna get ripped by some here, I happen to agree, Sather's job was to close the gap on the West, give this team a better chance at getting back to the Finals, I understand cap restraints and the off season isn't over but he's painted himself into a corner, hope these kids are as good as we think they are

Having $1.5 mil more at this time(Glass' contract) would be helpful, I mean what are the chances that he had teams knocking down his door? He's the type of player that doesn't get signed on July 1st but that's where Sather shows he's out of touch

Did you even read his blog?

The only players of note the Islanders picked up were Grabovski and Kulemin who Jan touched on in his last paragraph. It was written in order of when the players signed.

"Grabovski and Kulemin seemed to have ended up as a package deal, as each were rumored to go elsewhere, Kulemin to Pitt and Grabo to Nash. The Islanders now have Taveras-Grabovksi-Nielsen down the middle while I view Kulemin as more of a third line winger. Look for the Islanders to deal some forward depth for a defenseman."

You didn't read it all apparently. Don't skim and call out a blogger

No two signings have ever been prejudged as negative more the Glass and Boyle. It's typical Ranger fandom. But that's why people love us

The key is in the first 2 words of the post you quoted from Jan, "Right now", there's close to 3 months to still mold the roster & of course you'll get in season moves to help as the trade deadline approaches.

I think Ribeiro would be a good high risk reward type of guy, has the offensive talent to help you guys out for sure. Be interesting to see how those young guys can fill in to replace Richards/Boyle/Stralman

There is where they should use the left over money after the RFA's are resigned, rather than signing a reclamation project, right now the only UFA left I would sign would be Setoguchi, still in his 20's and a right handed shot

And although it is only "right now" the cap restraints limit what they can do, they now have to be creative rather than flexible

The good thing about Ribeiro is that you might be able to get a $4-5 million type talent for a $1 million. The bad thing is that he is apparently having some real serious personal issues, and you risk injecting a cancer into your room. Is it worth the risk? Maybe, considering you can always waive the guy at a small cost if it turns out bad.
